There are two types of girls in sorority recruitment.
The first type is the girl who goes through sorority recruitment and right away she finds the perfect sorority. She makes real connections. She focuses in on the sorority. She gets a bid to her #1 sorority.
Most people think this is the case for A L L girls going through sorority recruitment. I mean how hard can it really be…. right?
The second type of girl is the girl who gets lost in the process. She is listening to what other people are saying. She is avoiding real connection. She is O N L Y focusing on the reputations. She is letting the sorority impress her, and she is not really connecting with them. Sadly, she thinks she finds the perfect sorority, but she gets dropped.
Why did she get dropped?
She got lost in the process. She was not sharing her truth. She was trying to fit a mold….. This experience was similar to my experience in sorority recruitment. I have talked to a lot of girls throughout the years, and they also have had a similar experience. Every year sooooo many girls get lost in the process.
So... what gives? How does the first type of girl have an amazing sorority recruitment experience?
It’s simple. It comes down to the motto: Think it. Want it. Get it.
If you think about your dream sorority and you want to find your dream sorority, you will get it.
Want to know 5 ways to stand out from all the other potential new members?
Let’s really breakdown this idea.
The first part of this motto is all about envisioning your dream sorority.
What do you want this sorority to be like?
What do you want out of the sorority?
What type of girls do you want to be surrounded with?
What kind of opportunities do you want to have?
Get down to the nitty gritty... think about E V E R Y T H I N G .
Now you have thought about all the components of your dream sorority, it’s time to make your list.
Basically, you need to know your make or breaks.
I recommend you create a list of all the things you want out of a sorority. On this list, you should write down your top 3 qualities you want out of a sorority and write down why you are going through sorority recruitment. Keep this list in your phone, and you can look back at it throughout recruitment.
Read all about creating your list HERE.
This list will keep you grounded throughout sorority recruitment. You will be the girl on a mission to find Y O U R dream sorority. Not Sally’s dream sorority.
Also, these make or breaks are great to pull questions from. Sorority recruitment is a two way street. You need to be asking questions and making connections with the sorority members.
After you create your list, you need to know Y O U deserve everything on your list. You are worthy of finding your dream sorority.
With this positive mindset, you will have so many different opportunities open up to you!
That's all fun and game, but you also have to put in the work too!
You have to make a social resume. Read about social resumes HERE.
You have to make a cover letter. Read about cover letters HERE.
You have to get REC letters. Read about REC letters HERE.
You have to reach out to girls you know at your college who are in sororities. Read about reaching out HERE.
You have to start thinking about the questions you are going to ask.
You have to start thinking about what you did during the summer. If you are going through sorority recruitment in the Spring, start thinking about what you did during the Fall semester. The sorority members are going to ask you what you did.
You have to clean up your social media. Read all about the do’s and don’ts of social media HERE.
This work W I L L benefit you in sorority recruitment.
The third part of the motto is all about getting your dream sorority. It’s about embracing your inner It Girl.
When you are talking to the sororities members, you need to really tap into the real connections you are making. Yes, you might have a lot in common with Samantha, but can you see yourself in the sorority.
Try to dismiss all the stereotypes you are hearing.
Gravitate towards the connections you are making. If you really click with one sorority, A W E S O M E . Continue to go back to the sorority and see if you connect with other members.
Be open to all the possibilities. Maybe a sorority you did not know much about is the right sorority for you.
Now if you get dropped from what was your #1 sorority, go back and reevaluate the sororities you still have left. Did you avoid connections? Are you know able to see a different side? Can you see yourself in any of the sororities?
If you focus on how that sorority was your only choice and you do not fit into the other sororities, you are focusing on the negatives. These negative feelings will bring a negative attitude, and you will not be open to any connections.
You need to focus on the positives. You still have the opportunity to join a sorority. You still might find the perfect sorority for you. Your positive attitude will attract the right sorority and allow you to make connections with the sorority members.
However, I don’t want you to completely eliminate your feelings. Don’t forget sorority recruitment is a numbers game. It does not mean the sorority did not like you, it just means you did not get a high enough score to make it to the next round.
If you still are unhappy with your choices, you have a hard decision to make:
You can drop.
You can continue on.

You need to make the best decision for yourself. Don’t join a sorority because you only want to be in a sorority.
