HOW TO ANSWER WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A SORORITY

Like I have said before, sorority recruitment is  A L L  about small talk. The goal of the sorority members is to get to know you and to see if you are the perfect fit

Round One the small talk is light and fun, but by Pref it gets more serious. Pref is all about answering some tough questions. Okay may not tough, but these questions will require a little more thinking.

Here are some of the go to questions for Pref.

  • What are you looking for in a sorority?

  • What can you contribute to the sorority?

  • Why do you want to join the sorority?

I told you they require some thinking…

When I was asked these type of questions, I immediately thought, “Okay Kelly….. we were just talking about how cute my dress was. Now, this?” I was completely thrown off guard.

You probably can guess my response.  W O R D  V O M I T .

I started to just spit out the things I thought the sorority members wanted to hear. You know the basics, the cliche moments I saw in all the movies. Like, I was looking for friendship and a home away from home.

These answers are great and all, but how was my response different than any other girl’s response. Spoiler alert… it wasn’t. I didn’t stand out from the crowd of other pnms, and that’s why I am writing this post.

I want to help you have a genuine response, not a cliche one. I want to help you stand out from the crowd. I want you to embrace your inner It Girl.

Want to know 5 ways to stand out from all the other potential new members?

OKAY NOW… LET’S BREAKDOWN THESE QUESTIONS.

QUESTION #1. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A SORORITY?

what does this even mean?

You should always be honest with the sorority members and let them know how you are feeling. When you are completely yourself, you will find the perfect sorority for you.

Look back at your list. Want to learn more about this list? Click HERE.

Basically, your list should be your make or breaks. What are the 3 values you want to have in a sorority? These values are your answer.

Here are some ideas.

  • A home away from home

  • Friendships

  • A cause to stand behind

  • To find like minded individuals

  • Girls you can relate to

  • To make campus feel smaller

Whatever your answer is, make sure it’s genuine.

Now that you have your answer, you need your  W H Y . Why are these values important to you? Why are you going through with sorority recruitment?

Your why is what makes you stand out from the crowd. It’s what makes you, you.

  • Did you older sister/ mom/ aunt/ cousin/ grandma/ boyfriend’s sister join a sorority, and you saw how amazing it was for them?

  • Do you go to a large college, and you want to be a part of an organization?

  • Are you from out of state?

  • Do you want to feel connected to the sorority’s philanthropy?

Here is how you combine your values and your why.

Let’s say one of your values is sisterhood. Your why is your mom always talking about how she is still friends with women from her sorority. You want a similar experience.

My mom was in a sorority, and she is still friends with some of her pledge class. I am looking for a strong sisterhood. I see the way this sorority interacts with one another, and I know I can find a strong sisterhood here.

What qualities can you add to the sorority? What’s something you love to do, and how can you use it to benefit the sorority?

HOW TO ANSWER.

This question can seem very tough…. B U T  there is no wrong answer. Okay if you say you can contribute drugs or alcohol or boys, those are probably not great answers.

When asked this question, take a minute to brag on yourself. Show off all your hard work. The sorority members want you to share your passions.

Let’s say you want to hold a position in the sorority, tell the sorority members about how you started a club (or held a position in a club or was team captain or did some sort of job/ internships), and this experience will be beneficial for the sorority.

Here’s are some examples.

Let’s say you  L O V E  Instagram and photography. You could talk about how you would love to capture moments from the sorority and provide premium content for the sorority’s Instagram.

O R

Let’s say you are great at tennis and love athletic activities. You could talk about how you would love to serve as the intramural team leader for the sorority. Yes, this position actually exists.

O R

Let’s say you had an internship where you helped organize events. You could talk about what you learned and how you would love to use this information to plan the sorority’s philanthropy events.

Okay that’s great and all, but what if you don’t plan on holding a position for the sorority.

You could talk about how you love to volunteer and to contribute your time.

O R

You could talk about being an active member and devoting time to the sorority.

Still not sure how to answer this question?

Start with these 3 questions.

Now let’s nerd out for a second and make a Venn diagram to figure out your answer!
