I have talked a lot about what to wear.
Sadly every year, there are some fashion faux pas.
Yep. There are always a couple of "OMG, what is she wearing" moments.
We are breaking down the top 10 fashion faux pas.
Just an FYI: Every campus is different has a different style. It’s important to do your research.
Go on Instagram and look to see what the girls are wearing. I suggest you start with your college’s Panhellenic Instagram page. They usually post girls who are going through recruitment. See what they are wearing.
Then, go to the different sororities’ Instagram pages. Scroll until you get recruitment. See what the girls are wearing.
These ideas will help you pick out your outfits.
Want to know 5 ways to stand out from all the other potential new members?
Let's get into the Faux pas.
I know you might love a crop top, but there is a time and a place for it. Sorority recruitment is neither the time nor the place.
The sorority members do not want to see your whole stomach during round one. They want to meet you and they don’t need to be distracted by your clothing choices. Save the crop top for a night out, concert, or pool party.
old and stained clothing.
This faux pas might seem like an obvious answer. If your dress is pilling or stained, don’t wear it. It's that simple.
It comes off as you just don’t care. You need to put your best foot forward. Wearing clothes that look nice is one way to show off how excited you are to be at the sorority house.
Your clothes D O N ’ T have to be expensive!
wearing one style to fit an image.
You don’t need to only wear Lilly Pulitzer or J. Crew to get into a sorority.
There has been a stereotype that sorority girls O N L Y wear preppy clothes and Lilly Pulitzer…. that is so F A L S E. So, so, so false.
Maybe in like 2010, sorority girls O N L Y wore Lilly.
Times have changed. We are in 2018. Show off your personal style. If you like bohemian clothes, wear them. If you like preppy clothes, wear them. Do you girl!
Wear what makes you comfortable.
jean cut off shorts.
Jean shorts are a basic in every girl's closet.
However just like crop tops, your jean shorts do not need to make an appearance at sorority recruitment. It’s tooooo basic.
Try something that is a little nicer. If you are given a t-shirt for one or multiple rounds of sorority recruitment, try patterned shorts or a jean skirt.
Yes, there is a H U G E difference in a jean skirt and cut-offs.
Read my post HERE all about what to wear for t-shirt round.
Birkenstocks, chacos, tevas, running shoes, and flip flops.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Birkenstocks.
All of these shoes are not appropriate for sorority recruitment. They are too casual. Save the Old Navy flip flops for your shower shoes.
Again, you need to show the sorority you care. You need to show them you want to be there.
Don’t throw out these shoes. They are perfect for class or running around campus. Just don’t wear them to sorority recruitment.
A more appropriate type of shoe is a slip-on shoe or a flatform. I will include some examples for you.
Nike short/ athletic shorts.
This item should a given, right?
D O N ’ T wear them to sorority recruitment. Even on t-shirt round.
Just please don’t wear them to sorority recruitment.
Yep. Wrinkles. A girl’s worst nightmare.
Don’t pull your dress out of the draw and decide to wear it with all the wrinkles and creases in it.
You need to put effort into your outfits. The night before, you should steam your dresses and clothes.
A steamer does not cost a lot. It a major necessity in college.
You can even bring it into your bathroom while you are showering. The steam from the shower does miracles.
Another life hack, don’t wear the dress while you are steaming it. You can thank me later because you will get some major burns. Severe burns.
tight bodycon dresses and plunging dresses.
You do not have to impress any boys during sorority recruitment, so why are you showing off your hips and cleavage?
Save that bodycon dress for one of the dances or social events.
Wear a different shape such as shift or fit and flare.
cotton dresses and rayon dresses.
I don’t dislike cotton. It’s just some cotton dresses are too simple for sorority recruitment.
I will include some of the dresses you should N O T be wearing, and some cotton dresses that are okay to wear.
If the dress looks too simple, maybe try something a little different. Expand on the types of fabrics.
super high heels.
First off, 7 inch heels are so uncomfortable. Second, it’s hard to walk in a super high heel.
Try to stick to a simpler heel. Something easy to walk in, and something that allows you to not tower over the sorority members.
I have included some examples of high heels for Pref or Round Three of sorority recruitment.
