I want to preference this blog post by saying there is not one mold for a perfect potental new member. I wish I could tell you exactly what to do to get into a sorority. However, it’s not that easy. Every sorority is different. Every sorority is made up of diverse girl. It all comes down to who the sorority members connect with and who you connect with.

B U T … there are a couple of things every sorority looks for in a new member. Here they are:

1. Girls who the sorority members can be friends with.

2. Girls who can back a philanthropy.

3. Girls who are devoted.

4. Girls who are committed to their academics.

Sorority recruitment can seem like an interview. It’s like one question after another. It can get boring real fast.

The sororities members are asking you these questions because they want to find a connection with you. They want to walk away from the conversation and be like, “OMG she was a amazing! We have to get her!” or like, “She was great, but she is not the right fit.” It’s their job to find the perfect pnms.

B U T … it’s your job to find your dream sorority.

How do you find your dream sorority?

It’s starts with making connections through your answers A N D asking the right questions.

Today, I’m going to help you figure out the right questions to ask!

You made it through all the rounds of sorority recruitment. You voted one last time.

Now, it’s Bid Day. Walking to the final meeting place you are probably excited and nervous and have a butterflies in your stomach. You are about to start a new chapter. You are about to meet all your new sisters.

Ahh so exciting!!

Bid Day is probably the most magical day of the year. I guess you can compare it to like Christmas Day when you still believed in Santa. You know? You are so excited you just cannot contain yourself.

B U T you might wondering, how do bids work in sorority recruitment?

I am going to give you all the information!

Getting cut sucks. End of story.

I mean who really wants to be rejected from a sorority?

To be honest, it seems more personal as the rounds continue.

I wrote this blog post to hopefully make being cut less difficult. Just remember if you get cut and still want to join a sorority, you always have options.

Single. Preference. Vote.

It sounds confusing.

It might even sound a little scary because everyone says to N O T do it.

What is it?

Is it the same as a suicide vote?

I am going to break it all down for you.

Let’s talk about scholarship. More specifically grades. I know it’s a boring topic. Who really wants to talk about grades? But, we have to talk about it…

Sororities are all about academics.

You might be thinking, “Wait,  W H A T !?!”

Yep, you heard me right! All sororities place a strong emphasis on academics. They actually pride themselves on their high GPAs.

What’s up with that? Why do they care about grades so much?

It’s simple. The sororities want to see  you achieve your goals.

They want to see you go on and become a successful adult.

You have prepped for sorority recruitment. You have all your REC letters in. You have picked out the perfect outfits. You have made it to the last round of sorority recruitment, Pref.

Now, you have to make your final decision. Which sorority are you going to choose? Maybe the decision is easy. Maybe you have two sororities you really love. Maybe you are still not convinced you want to be in a sorority. No matter what situation you are in, this decision can seem very difficult. Like life changing difficult. It’s emotional. I mean you don’t want to make the wrong decision! 

B U T guess what… there is no wrong decision. 

I wish I could give you a magic pill to see into the future or three guarantee steps to choose your dream sorority, but it really all comes down to how you feel and what you want. 

Wondering what to wear for sorority recruitment?

It can seem very overwhelming. You might feel like you need to look your absolute best. You might even feel pressured to find the perfect outfits. I totally get it! I felt that pressure too.

However if there is one thing you take from this blog post, it’s show off your personal style. Your personal style is how you will stand out from the crowd. It’s how the sorority members will get to know you a little better.

Like I have said before, sorority recruitment is A L L about small talk. The goal of the sorority members is to get to know you and to see if you are the perfect fit.

Round One the small talk is light and fun, but by Pref it gets more serious. Pref is all about answering some tough questions. Okay may not tough, but these questions will require a little more thinking.

Here are some of the go to questions for Pref.

• What are you looking for in a sorority?

• What can you contribute to the sorority?

• Why do you want to join the sorority?

I told you they require some thinking….

When I was asked these type of questions, I immediately thought okay Kelly….. we were just talking about how cute my dress was. Now this? I was completely thrown off guard.

You probably can guess my response. W O R D V O M I T .

hate to break it to you… but sorority recruitment is A L L about small talk. Like every single conversation. It’s one conversation after another, and it starts to feel like you have had the same conversation one million times.

You will be asked all the basic questions. Like:

Where are you from?

What year are you?

Where are you living?

What did you do this summer OR What did you do during Fall semester?

So, how do you take these basic conversations and turn them into something amazing?
